ICMR advisory: No need for RT-PCR test in healthy individuals for inter-state domestic travel | India News

New Delhi: Indian Medical Research for Medical Research in its advice for Covid-19 testing has recommended during the second wave of epidemics that the need for RT-PCR testing in healthy individuals traveling international domestic travel could be completely eliminated. Emphasis on laboratories.
The ICMR also recommends that the vaccination status of all individuals tested for Covid-19 must be entered in the Sample Referral Form (SRF) in the RT-PCR application, tested by both RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
Explaining the need for detailed advice for testing for Covid-19, the ICMRA cited “the unprecedented upheaval of the Covid-19 case and the current deaths across India”. The overall nationwide test positivity rate is over 20%. Against this background, testing-tracking-tracing, isolation and home-based treatment of positive patients is the main way to prevent SARS-Cavi-2 transmission.
To date, India has a total of 2506 nuclear testing laboratories, including RT-PCR, TruNet, CBNAT and other platforms. Considering the three-shift operation of the existing laboratory network, the total daily national testing capacity is close to 1.5 million tests. “Currently, laboratories are facing challenges in meeting the expected test targets due to the extraordinary case load and the contagion of Staff Covid-19,” it said.
As part of the steps to optimize the RT-PCR test, the ICMR consultant clarifies that the RT-PCR test should not be repeated in anyone who has once tested positive for RAT or RT-PCR. In addition, according to the discharge policy of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, no test is required for persons recovering Covid-19 at the time of discharge in the hospital.
The consultant emphasizes that non-essential travel and interstate travel of therapeutic individuals (symptoms such as Covid-19 or flu) must be avoided to reduce the risk of infection and that all asymptomatic individuals who make the necessary travel must adhere to Covid appropriate behavior.
It is pointed out that mobile testing laboratories are now available on the JM portal and states must increase RT-PCR testing through mobile systems. Advisors recommend that, “to meet the demand for excessive testing, it would be prudent to perform upscale testing using rapid antigen tests.”
To enhance testing by the RAT, it is recommended that these tests be approved at all available government and private healthcare facilities and that dedicated RAT booths be set up in cities, towns and villages to provide testing to the public. Recommends advice and also suggests creating drive-through RAT testing facilities.
Counsel states that during the current turmoil of covid-1id cases, anyone present with cough, headache, sore throat, shortness of breath, body aches, loss of taste or smell, stress with fatigue and diarrhea should be considered suspicious cases of other etiologies. Covid-19’s unless proven otherwise by confirmation.
